Rolling Prairie Bike Trail

This 21-mile paved trail connects Shell Rock, Allison, Bristow, and Clarksville. Along it’s hard surface path you’ll find a nice mix of natural canopy and scenic bridges. The Shell Rock trailhead is a quarter mile north of Highway 3 on county road T-63. There is currently limited parking and no restroom facilities. The expansion from Allison to Bristow was completed in 2019, and each of the trailheads features a kiosk with maps, trail information, and more. In the future, plans are to expand west to Dumont once funding is secured.

Comet Trail

This former railroad turned popular recreation trail preserves valuable wildlife habitats while offering eight miles of biking, walking, and hiking routes. The majority of this trail is made up of a crushed limestone surface, ideal for bicycling and walking. Comet Trail is also part of the “American Discovery Trail”, which runs from coast to coast across the U.S.

Grundy County Lake

  Dike, IA

This 225-acre multi-purpose recreation area is the largest and newest in the county park system. It provides picnicking, camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing. Picnic tables and grills are available for use. Meandering grass trails provide the perfect biking or hiking opportunity through grassland, wetland, and asphalt areas around the lake!

Herbert Gutknecht Park

  Between Morrison and Reinbeck, IA

Herbert Gutknecht Park is a one-acre park with 5 designated campsites. There is no charge for overnight camping, and hand-pumped running water, picnic tables, and a shelter are available for us. Adjoining the edge of the park is the Pioneer Trail, a 12-mile stretch connecting four towns. This park is an excellent stop when traveling, and a perfect place to watch fireworks from the nearby town of Reinbeck on the Fourth of July!

Pioneer Trail

Stretching from Reinbeck to Holland, and connecting four towns over 12 miles, this trail has a surface of crushed and compacted limestone making it perfect for outdoor recreation. Enjoy activities like hiking, running, bike riding, and cross country skiing while taking in all of nature’s treasures including wildlife and native vegetation. Horseback riding is allowed along a mowed grass trail that parallels the limestone trail.
